Ummm...Okay, so I lied.

We had been talking about it for a while...if the right (free, siamese) kitteh came along...

And lo! There were sisters!
Don't panic, we're not keeping both of them...and yes!
We have access to vet care!

My niece is visiting and it's all her fault I came home with a kitteh we decided to partner up in this crime of early birthday present for Supergirl....with the added bonus of supercousins having sister kitties....

We have a few days to decide which is the best match, but I am placing bets on the one we call 'Sassy'. Any guesses why?

You could never have said no to that face either.

You big old pushover! But a free kitten is a free kitten. Hope it's a healthy one! She looks so happy!

Oh man. I want a (free, Siamese) kitten. So cute.

Consider keeping both of them, if your vet care expenses are affordable. Two kittens get into less trouble than one because they play with each other, instead of your shoes, your curtains, your computer cords... etc.

They say that over time pets and their owners look alike but those two are like loaded blonde and blue dice. AWWS. No really srsly awwwww...

I'm with Michelle... most cats, especially sibs, like having friends. =)

And no, there is no chance I could have said no to that face! Now you know why *I* have a cat! =P

I am so glad you did this! As a cat person myself I recommend having at least two to keep each other company.

Smiling just as wide as I can!

Please keep them both if you can. Two cats keep each other company. Oh, and please make them indoor cats. They live much longer and healthier lives!

I like the pointy faced one!

Why on earth would anyone be suggesting you keep two of them much less just the one? You are having problems providing for yourself and your children and their bare necessities as it is. You have to get food from the food bank and take donations from random people on the internet to be able to take care of your children. Your priorities are astounding. I guess if I had a bunch of people sending me money on the internet I wouldn't be too concerned about it either.

I would keep one cat, it's better than none, yet less responsibility than two. Another cat, another mouth to feed. I wanted to contact you about advertising opportunities on your blog, but cannot find your email address anywhere. Do you mind giving it?

There is an 'email me' button on my sidebar. gwendomama (at) gmail (dot) com.
One kitten stays, as planned. Lucky for me I was a nanny to a vet for 10 years.
My priorities remain the same: MY CHILDREN AND THEIR WELL BEING.
Ever hear of PTSD and depression in an 8 yr old?
Ever heard of a therapy pet? Well, it's working.

Love, love, love Siamese and all the derivatives. We added a snowshoe kitten (siamese/calico mix) to our brood last September and she is a sweetie. Congrats on the new addition and bump the haters. Fooey on them.

Maybe you could get a comment box where you approve comments. On the bright side, it is evidence. Enjoy the kitteh!

Evidence? Yes, it is evident that, in spite of not receiving child support, in spite of not recovering financially from everything he stole from us, and in spite of him not even volunteering a cent to the kids while he skied all season, I can and will still provide a birthday present for my daughter.

You GO GIRL!!!
I saw a post of face book the other day, it said "When you judge someone, it doesn't make a statement about them, it makes a statement about you"
You keep up the good fight and know that everything that they say only reflects badly on THEM.

I have sympathy for you, but getting a pet you won't be able to take care of properly (neutering, yearly check ups and vaccinations, food, emergencies) is cruel.

gwendomama said...

Michela: Just can't stay away, can you? Well, welcome.

Anon: You missed the part where I said I would NEVER have gotten a kitten if the care was not offered to my daughter. I have done a lot for many people and now they want to give back. This kitten will never be denied vet care, whether we stay here near my former nannying vet family or go back to PA where we have family vet care.

Read all the info before making such a drastic assumption and levying such an accusation as 'cruel'.

You guys are going to have so much fun. Happy birthday, kid.

I think the kitten is a good idea Gwen. I can tell you this, I have had some dark times where I didnt know how or what I was going to do emotionally, spiritually or financially. But I had Lucy (my cat) and Lucky ( a stray dog that adopted me). Through that dark time these two got me through. They are still with me now and times arent great but they are MUCH better. I wouldnt trade them for the world and I needed them then and I still need them now. Therapy cat will do the same for you. I think that is what I will call her for her internet name. Therapy cat!

I have two female cats from the same litter. When they were really young I would have said "yeah, keep two together" because they were just so cute and hilarious and would snuggle together. By the time they were adults they couldn't stand each other and will now have nothing to do with each other anyway. One is plenty and the kids (and you) will give her all the love and attention she needs.

Geez people it is a cat, not a Bentley. And she has vet care. If it wasn't for my dogs and cats (2 of each), I might not get out of bed some days. I think a pet is a great birthday present. Esp for a little girl that has had a tough year.

Damn, them's some cruel comments on here. One look at Supergirl's face says it all: that kitty is the best thing that has happened to her all year. And she NEEDS something good, and deserves something good.
I'd say that kitty is something well worth supporting, even with donations, for Supergirl. You gotta think of the entire child, not just basic physical needs.
Therapy Kitty is going to make a big difference in one small girl's life.
(I've been reading but this is my first comment. I HAD to say something after reading some of the above comments. Are people really that lacking in common sense that they can't see how much benefit Therapy Kitty will be to Supergirl? If she needed fancy people driven therapy, we'd be all over it. But just because therapy comes in a kitty package, it's seen as a 'frivolity'. No such thing.)
I hope you enjoy all your kitten time. They grow up all too fast!
