Quiet in Angstland

My own current state of political angst is best described as crushing anxiety and futile futility.

Yes, I am that bunched up about it.

I fear we live in our little bubble here; a lalalalovely leftist likable bubble.

Which, last time made me feel like an ass.

This time I want to feel triumphant.

Same bubble, new faces, new ticket, new goals, new fears.

Do you appreciate your rights as a woman as you know them now?

I urge you to look more deeply into this situation and validate your fears.

Then, use your voice, your blog, your influence, your common peaceful motivations to help us create not just change, but to maintain your freedom as you know it.

And get a paper bag and BREATHE into it.
In, out: In, out: repeat.
You can do this.

I'm actually very scared that the McCain group will win. This country is stupid enough to let it happen. Americans love to idolize. And they found their idol. Forget the issues, forget that if we chose Obama, it will be the beginning of an amazing era for this country and the world. I really don't know if I can stay in this country if McCain wins. Really, I don't.

Let's not change the focus of this decision to which side you pick on abortion. That's what the McCain camp wants you to do. They want to distract you from the REAL issues - the economy, the war, and health care. They know if we get caught up arguing about this (where we've all pretty much made up our minds) we won't realize that electing McCain will give us four more years like the past eight.

I'm working on a post about why women should not vote for Palin, but I'm getting a headache from banging my head on the desk and shouting, "What the fuck are you all thinking????"

It needs work. But, yes, I'm scared too.

I would really love for someone to expand on this. I can't see how anyone that has lost a child or suffered infertility can support abortion. After carring a child and feeling the kicks and personality growing. How could you choose to end that life?

Good God, I've never seen someone's blog attract anonymous little twerps like yours.

I had something real meaningful to add to this discussion and now I'm just sitting here with my jaw dropped that not only was someone rude enough to leave a comment like that, but they were such a chickenshit.

I feel sick inside with worry, true worry, and anger on how the right can continue to lie and it seems like everyone is drinking the kool-aid. not everyone, but too many. I feel you. It was hard to swallow our country's leaders before becoming a mom, but now when i look down at c and k, I cant fathom living here under mccain....

Dear Anon (AKA Feminist for Life-er?), I have thought and thought about what you are requesting and wondered why here on this blog? As a mother of three and a feminist for... (WTF? EVERYTHING?) choice - yes, choice! - I would never suppose that I know your experience in a more intimate way than you. Which would lead me to believe that YOU have the best answers for YOU and I have the best answers for me. That being said, I wonder how I could POSSIBLY make a decision for you that would not only change the course of your life (ie; birthing and raising another child)but change the course of the lives of the rest of your family? I TRUST YOU to make those decisions for YOU and YOURS,and I don't even know you. Perhaps my choices (no, I am not pregnant waiting to abort my baby until I am "feeling the kicks and personality growing." [who the fuck gets an abortion then anyway? I'm just sayin']...)are ones that should be left to me as well. I mean if the right argues our inalienable right to carry guns, why not my inalienable right to rule MY body? It just makes no sense. My advice to you is to go and join some internet chat group that has a name like 'mommies for jesus and 7 child families" and you may find better company for yourself and your dated, draconian beliefs. NOT HERE.

We all have very strong feelings on this issue so it's important to keep in mind that everyone has the right to their opinion. Everyone should try to keep their mind open to new ideas. Nothing is accomplished by name-calling and being rude to each other. That being said, I have something to say to "anonymous."

Your compassion for unborn life is probably equal to everyone else who has commented here. We would all love to live in a world where all babies are wanted and loved. The fact of the matter is that's not the world we live in. I think all the effort we put into saving unborn babies should be shifted towards helping the babies that are born into families who don't want them, don't care for them, and don't love them. Volunteering in my local school system, I can tell you there are a lot! These kids are not fed regularly, are free to roam the streets at all hours of the day and night, and have parents too drunk or high to notice. They come to school in dirty clothes, with a hungry stomach and are barely able to keep their eyes open.

Let's help them and not just insist that they are born and then turn our backs on them!

Hi from a different anonymous.

Let me say that I have always been a conservative and a Republican, but I pray to God that McCain/Palin do NOT get in. Palin is one scary woman. She is a gun wielding freak if you ask me. Her thoughts and beliefs seem to come out of a bad 1955 sitcom. I see how her no sex ed in school advice worked well for her daughter. Maybe if Palin had been home every once in a while guiding her better, she wouldn't be another teen statistic.

Additionally, here is a woman who has a newborn who will need both parents 100% attending to his medical and developmental needs due to his Down Syndrome yet she'll just hand him off to anybody who is willing. She is a deadbeat parent. She is also a complete hypocrite. I can't stand this woman. Never liked McCain either and his choice for running mate slammed door on me ever considering voting for him. I just hope this hillbillie and her family head back to Alaska for good very soon!

i hate palin. hate hate hate her.

i went off about her in the middle of my politics class.

did you know that when she was mayor of wasilla, wasilla forced rape survivors to PAY FOR THEIR RAPE KITS? that's anywhere from 300-1200. disgusting.

she's an ignorant hate-monger with nothing in common with women except reproductive organs.

I'm Anon #3.

I think that the abortion issue should be left to women and not government. To be honest, my personal opinion on whether abortion is okay, goes back and forth with me. I have my personal reasons. What I'm at odds with is McCain saying he is for abortion if it's a rape/incest case, whereas Palin says no. Well, if you're against abortion because it is murder, when is the fetus created by rape/incest not murder?

Its really confusing to me. Especially that he would chose her seeing that her beliefs aren't entirely hers.

Having said all that, it's really too bad that the really big issues get lost...

It's beyond the abortion issue. Palin is simply not qualified at all. After watching her interview with Charlie Gibson it is clear that she is a joke. She has prepared responses and that's about it. How could people be suckered in to believing this woman could be VP and possibly President? Completely frightening--what is wrong with this country?? Maybe Palin should just stop having kids and actually be involved in raising the ones she does have instead of seeking a position that she is just not qualified to for.

I totally agree with the comments of last anon. She is a joke. America needed a rock star, an idol, and here she is. There will be dolls, promos, this is the sick American way. McCain is riding on her coat tails and unfortunately the race has become between Obama and her. Somebody please pinch me. Tell me this is not real. It's just way too sick.

I think people wanting a person they can idolize rather than run this country truly shows the dumbing down of many in this country. The ignorance of people not seeing through this ex-beauty queen who changed colleges six times (guess she partied her way through each one) is shocking. She is nothing but a redneck who kills animals from helicopters for sport, has kids she clearly has no handle on and is nothing but a "pig in lipstick." Sorry, but it's true.
