Haters Are All Around Us

To those of you who have asked how I can 'spew hatred' at haters, I say to you this:

This was not a choice about anything other than hate.
People were offered a choice to hate or not to hate. We in California, got to vote for hate or against it.
We were offered the opportunity to vote for discrimination or against it.
Sadly, the vote for discrimination (or fear?) won.

HOW does prohibiting any deserving person from appreciating the same rights as are afforded to you, NOT promote hate?
I CAN accept that others have different viewpoints, but the irony seems to weigh in heavily on the fact that proposition 8 was all about hating, promoting hatred, and promoting homophobia. And it was all justified under the fallacy of 'protection' for a sacred institution of love.

HOW does disallowing two people in love to be sanctioned and or become a family protect your own veil of superiority?

How can the Mormon church - how can any church - propagate such a movement behind hatred when their own beliefs and doctrine of polygamists' superiority were only reformed when their statehood was at stake?

I don't understand.

You who voted yes on 8 deserve every flipping bird and look of disgust that the internet dishes out to you. You, who went out of your way to hurt others, to promote separatism and bigotry?

I promise you that you are deserving.

Actually, have another one.

Here's the scary thing-

I can actually see that people would be offended by being flipped - and yes I was the one that screamed a big 'ol Fuck You on my very own post before this got started... You know me I can see both sides. Call me crazy.

I was so angry- still am I guess.

I'm with ya on the hate thing- I cannot get people who voted yes to see that. In my experience they have just continued to quote biblical, theology based responses. I remind them that the bible was used to promote anti-miscegenation laws and slavery- and they have no response.

Others voted yes for their own reasons- I just don't know what those reasons are- Fear? That's my guess. No one seems to want to deny us loving one another - which leaves me to believe that it comes down to sex- and you know? I don't really care for anal sex- but I know lots of people do- I'm not going to pass a constitutional amendment banning anal sex.

You are one angry pathetic woman. Incredibly narrow minded at that. If we don't agree with you - you judge us as spewing hatred. Seems to me you are the one spewing the hated!!

All the "Yes on Prop 8" people I've seen are all, "hey, glad that's over, can't we get along now?"

No, no we can't. We tried being polite and respectful. It didn't work. Now we're pissed off.

I am so with you on the Proposition 8 thing. My daughter lives in LA and was very distressed over the outcome. She also voted for Obama, so I can't be all bad, huh? Our son did too, lol. Cancel. Cancel. I believe I raised them right. Also, my hubby's brother is gay, so I've always been an advocate for their rights. Frankly, I'm glad Obama won and I hope he brings some positive change to our country. Shaking things up is something I've always enjoyed, in case you couldn't tell, lol. So, I wish you this: Be Well & Be Happy.

Hi! I've been reading your blog for a while, and I love it. Thanks for the great blog posts on Prop 8...you gave me a fantastic idea on how exactly to announce my own disgust! The haters deserve every bit of criticism they get. At least they haven't had their rights yanked out from under them.

This vote was a setback for sure, but I think things will come around. Proposition 8 has brought the issue to the forefront of so many people's minds that I daresay it may end up having the opposite of the intended effect in the long run. :^)

For some reason, a lot of people were DEAD SURE that if gays could get married, that churches could be sued for discrimination if they refused to marry them. Where they got this cockamamie idea, I have no idea.

Love it! Sorry...I have not yet posted my own bird to hate :)
I agree with you completely. I just don't get it at all. And especially from the groups who were at the center of this absurd proposition. Just plain sucks.

Here in Canada, gay marriage is legal. If a church doesn't want to marry a gay couple, they don't have to.

It's not so complicated.

We've had gay marriage here for three years now, and, I'm sure you'll all be relieved to know, every single straight marriage I know is just as strong and healthy (or not) as it ever was!

What happens to all those couples who were married in California when it was legal? Are they still married, or do they find themselves unmarried without a divorce?

Meantime, there's a fascinating intiative being proposed. You might want to read about it on the Huffington Post. Reads an awful lot like poetic justice for me, if it actually succeeded.
