Smug Update

Remember this diabolical scheme, the one which one commenter called an 'immature prank'?

As of Friday, Planned Parenthood had taken in $802,678 in donations from 31,313 people, said a spokesman for the organization, Tait Sye. More than two-thirds of the individuals are first-time donors to Planned Parenthood, Mr. Sye said, and money came in from all 50 states.

Well....thank you, to all who have participated or are going to. And thank you, Melanie, who brought this to my immediate attention.

Cool!!

I thought this was a weird statement.

What waste PP's postage budge(sic) on such an immature prank!"

I'm sure that PP would like to send out a 50 cent card with a 50 cent stamp and keep the $4 left over. In fact, if Christy wants to send me five bucks, I'd be happy to use my budget to send her a card.....

Birth control, HIV, safer sex, she's entitled to her beliefs.

What you should be really concerned about is her abilities to lead the country if the old guy goes.

You used PP. I'm glad they got the bucks but you did it out of spite. That's not good.

hahahahahahahahaha. that's funny. birth control and safer sex. hahahahahahahaha.
she opposes sex education AND abortions 100%. yes, she IS entitled to her beliefs and they are just that - HERS. she is NOT entitled to toy with decisions about anyone ELSE's uterus.
she is certainly not equipped (mentally, period) to run a country and hellyeah i am concerned - but i will not use my blog as a platform to discuss miss SP and take away from his royal evilness - mcSame.
she doesn't deserve anything but mocking.
she EARNED that.
USED PP? that's funny. i guess i could have sent money to PETA in her name as well, but i didn't.

God. You are so irritating sometimes. I agree with you about all that stuff, ok??!!!
I get it. I don't want anyone telling women what to do with their bodies either. We're on the same side. And I think she's wrong choice for vp pick too.

She has her beliefs, right or wrong. And her daughter? What the hell can you tell a horny 17 year old? Just wait till your kids are old enough. They don't always agree with you and you can't always stop them.

My mentioning safer sex, and HIV, where I was going with that is these are topics of PP. And I still think that using PP to fight SP is wrong. I'm just not so sure you would have donated to them 2 months ago.

So way to go, you provided loads of money to PP. But do it for genuine reasons, not out of spite.

I'm confused. So there are OK reasons (i.e. "genuine") for donating, and not-OK reasons? Who decides that? Seems to me it's between the person donating and the organization.

I kind of doubt PP feels "used." Most non-profits I've worked at would be like, "Hey, use us too, please!"

People make all kinds of statements with their donations. "I'm giving to you because I'm against the other side," is just one of them.

Hehe, I think that has to be up there as one of THE most imaginative pranks/schemes ever!

And as the commenter above said, I am sure that they are glad of the donations. And also, that they too have a sense of humour!

the end justifies the means. and i've always found if you can look at both intentions and actions, they equate to the truth. ergo, i think this is brilliant

Even funnier would be to send donations in Bristol Palin's name.

After watching Sarah Palin's recent interviews with Gibson and Couric, it is clear that she doesn't even sound like she's qualified to be PTA president. Pretty pathetic people would be the only ones voting for this moron.

PP needs the $$. How they get it is irrelevent. If the GOP gets in there again (admin) all of that money donated will not even make a smidge of a difference. Keep donating, for whatever reasons, to PP and hopefully they will be able to provide services to those in need, as the US govt. will ceratinly cut all funding to women's health care programs and we will all be fucke in more than one way...

Um . . . how about turning off anonymous comments?

But anywhoo . . . so you support a good cause out of spite. What's the problem with spite? I like a little spite now and again. Especially when pointed in the right direction. Nothing wrong with that.

Anonymous said...

Now why would you want to do that Cindy?

gwendomama said...

not a bad idea, cindy - but then what if anon can't figure out that he can still comment without even registering because google lets you put in ANY name.
might be too confusing.

Well, I finally clicked on the link from today's quote.

31,313 people sent in donations totally over $800,000. That averages 25 dollars or so per person. It doesn't seem to be a petty, immature, spiteful thing. It seems like people who believe in PP's cause and were motivated to support it.

Additionally, the NY times quotes Cecile Richards, the president of PP, as calling it "phenomenal". I guess they didn't mind at all. :)

Yeah, I think you're right, G. It's probably just tooooooo difficult. Maybe anon should spend some time studying up on this instead of posting anon comments over here on your lovely blog.

Have you seen Sara B.'s "Mr. Joe Biden!" vlog entry? God, I love her.

Anonymous said...

I just love this. All 50 state. And after reading about it in blog after blog I joined the fun too. And of course I "use" PP -- for my annual physical!

Good God, you'd think you strap people down in their chairs and make them read every single last word, the way they react. What part of "personal blog" is hard to understand?

I adore this prank. It's awesome.

Here's to immaturity and pranks! Add $5 more to the tally!

I too have had experience working with non-profits including the one supporting my son's genetic disorder (http://pkskids.net). I don't care how you slice it, dice it, use it, get it, or whatever. If you wanna send some green our way, we'll take it!
